Woop Records announce their debut release from South-East Londoner Ben Hauke. Having most recently lent his no-nonsense production style to remixes for the likes of Far Out Recordings and Africa Seven, the Woop bossman’s latest EP samples everything from jazz drums and underground UK hip-hop, to an all-female juvenile detention centre choir, as well as live key board-playing from Ed Begley, a fellow member of South East’s burgeoning underground.
The four-track EP of all original productions is Ben’s unique beatmaker’s perspective on dusty, jazzy club music, and his unorthodox approach to the four-to- the-floor vehicle has seen him likened to both Theo Parrish and Madlib respectively.
With track titles and samples referencing his hometown of Lewisham, WOOP001 is an approving nod to Ben’s stomping-ground, and if you’ve ever been to Lewisham, you’ll understand the straight to the point, almost rude sound that runs throughout the release.
